Would You Return to Work 2 Days After Giving Birth?

University of Georgia women's head basketball coach, Joni Taylor, is making waves in the media, but not for her team's February 18th victory over Mississippi. Taylor is under scrutiny for her quick return to work after only...wait for it....

2 days!

Women's basketball coach returns to work 2 days after giving birth to baby girl.
Would You Return to Work 2 Days After Giving Birth?

This article has been floating around social media and there have been mixed reviews. Most of the reviews lean towards shock that a mom would want to return to work so soon. Some are calling her superwoman and some are saying that the backlash she's receiving is uncalled for.

I think it's ridiculous. Why would you want to leave your baby so soon? Isn't that during the time when bonding is supposed to be taking place? What about the baby? I've heard a few people say that she probably has a lot of help at home in her absence. That's great, but that still doesn't take the place of a mother's nurturing. I also hear people saying March Madness is coming up and this could affect her keeping or losing her job. Again, what about the baby and the baby's needs? Shouldn't that be apart of the job contract as a woman in sports? Should she have to worry about her job while she's out on maternity leave? No, but she also shouldn't be leaving her baby so soon and jeopardizing her health at the same time.

Are more expecting mothers going to have the same expectations placed on them? Will employers consider cutting maternity leave down even more if women continue to take this approach to returning to work so early?

The University of Georgia women's basketball team is currently 17-10 with a recent win over the University of Alabama on February 24th. Taylor's daughter was born Tuesday, February 19th following the team's win over Arkansas on February 18th and returned to work on Thursday, February 21st.
